Motorists driven by cost
INCREASED costs are forcing major changes in driving habits.
Motorists are now thinking twice before using their cars, according to survey findings.
Eight out of every 10 people taking part in a poll by rental firm Europcar claim the recession has forced them to change their driving habits and seven out of ten are considering car hire to help cut the cost of wear and tear and maintenance.
'This survey tells us that motorists are getting more savvy about the ways they keep their cars in good condition and keep mileage down to help maintain good resale values," said marketing director Catriona Lougher.
'It also shows that some families have downsized their cars for everyday use but find they need something bigger for trips away - and vehicle hire is playing an important part in this because it gives drivers access to vehicles suited to the job.'
According to the survey, 68% of motorists questioned have already hired vehicles for a holiday or long trip in the UK and 73% plan to in 2010.
In addition, 42% currently leave their own car on the drive and use car hire for weekend breaks. Almost half confirmed that they planned to use vehicle hire for weekend breaks in 2010.
