BMW strikes gold for London Olympics

COMMITMENT to sustainability has helped BMW clinch the prestige contract to be the automotive partner for the London Olympics.

The German group's track record in the economic use of resources and commitment to sustainable management proved to be a major factor in its selection, said BMW UK managing director Tim Abbott.

'The London Games will be a once-in-a-lifetime event for all of us and 2012 will be a year we will talk about for the rest of our lives.

'We will do our best to build excitement about this event as we count down the months to when it happens,' said Mr Abbott at the group's annual media event in London.

Named as the most sustainable car firm in the world for the fifth year in a row by the Dow Jones sustainability index, BMW will be managing a fleet of more than 4,000 vehicles throughout the period of the games for use as official transport for athletes and officials.
