Motorists doing it for themselves

THE credit crunch is making more motorists turn to DIY repairs.

Haynes, publisher of car maintenance manuals, and online supplier Carparts-direct.co.uk have both seen an increase in their sales compared to the same period last year.

John Haynes, managing director of Haynes Publishing, says: "You don't need to buy a new car to enjoy reliable motoring as modern cars are generally problem free, especially if they are serviced and maintained regularly. These tasks can be carried out by most motorists with the help of a Haynes Manual."

Mark Cornwall, of Car Parts Direct, said his online service had also seen a surge in people ordering car parts off the Internet since the crunch began.
