PERSONALISED registration plates are now available to buy online from the DVLA via a new commercial website.

Although it has been possible for some time to use the agency's interactive website to search through the millions of un-issued registrations, it was necessary to buy them through a telephone sales system.

Now, with more and more people using the Internet for shopping, DVLA Personalised Registrations marketing manager, Damien Lewis says: 'Being able to buy direct online is certainly the future.'

The user-friendly website allows people to hunt for a registration of their choice and then within a few clicks purchase it.

The first online sale was completed by Kevin Withers, a chiropodist from Clacton-on-Sea, who bought the number plate KW54 TOE.
