VW chips in with new Golf prices

PRICES have been announced for the new Volkswagen Golf, for which orders can be placed ahead of its scheduled January sale date.

The newcomer will cost from £13,150 for the entry-level S three-door model with a 1.4-litre 80bhp engine, rising to £20,980 for the range-topping GT five-door with a 2.0-litre 140bhp turbodiesel engine and six-speed DSG clutchless manual gearbox.

The latest Golf comes in three trim levels of S, SE and GT, which each having higher equipment levels than the current equivalent models.

The S has electronic stability controls, seven airbags including a new driver's knee airbag, remote central locking, climatic air conditioning, CD/radio, plus electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.

The SE features an uprated stereo with eight speakers which can be connected to external multimedia sources such as an iPod.

There are 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and coming/leaving home lighting function plus rain and dusk sensors.

At the top of the range the GT has sports suspension, sports seats with Alcantara trim, front fog lights and a multifunction steering wheel plus 17-inch alloys.

Petrol engines are a 1.4-litre 80bhp or 1.6-litre 102bhp, plus a 1.4-litre TSI with a choice of 122bhp or 160bhp power outputs.

The 2.0-litre common rail diesels offer power outputs of 110bhp or 140bhp.

A number of options are available on the Golf for the first time including enhanced handling via adaptive chassis control and Volkwagen's ParkAssist automatic parking system.
