Values re-focus in credit crunch
THE CREDIT crunch is having some amazing effects on our driving and car buying habits.
For instance, I have noticed a marked slow-down on motorways as drivers strive to make their expensive fuel go the extra mile.
And when it comes to choosing a used car we seem to be more on the ball than ever over what we choose in terms of value for money.
But what used vehicles really do represent a good investment and won?t be worth peanuts after a couple of years?
Data experts HPI have revealed a list of cars that are highly cost-effective to run and environmentally friendly, but, very importantly, are most likely to hold their value.
HPI?s top picks include a raft of cars that are highly economical and have low CO2 ratings. Near the top is the Toyota Aygo and its sister cars - the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 - as well as the Fiat 500 and Hyundai i10.
Image conscious drivers will plump for the MINI, which is a bullet-proof buy for car hunters as long as they stay away from the high-end models.
When it comes to medium sized cars, the latest eco-friendly models will also win the day. The VW Golf Bluemotion, Audi A3 1.9 economy models and SEAT Leon 1.9 Ecomotive are all sound investments in terms of low running costs and value retention
Desirability will also be a factor to consider but it appears that, until the economy improves, small size and economy is ruling the roost.
