Learning about Lexus

LUXURY car maker Lexus is hoping to persuade potential buyers that large vehicles can still be economical and environmentally-friendly by promoting the virtues of hybrids.

The upmarket arm of Japanese giant Toyota is specialising in its range of hybrid models at showrooms across the country this weekend.

The company is eager to point out that whilst there may be a wholesale shift away from larger vehicles in general and 4x4s in particular, Lexus has hybrid versions of both.

These are models that use a combination of conventional petrol engines and electric motors to reduce emissions and improve economy.

Included in the Lexus line-up are the RX 400h 4x4 model plus the GS 450h family saloon and the LS 600h luxury limousine.

Despite being a 155mph sports saloon the GS 450h has an official economy figure of 35mpg whilst the RX 400h is a 125mph SUV also capable of averaging 35mpg.

A Lexus spokesperson says: "Hybrid power will be the special theme for a weekend of activities including the chance for one person to win an RX 400h for a year.

"On September 6 and 7 centres will be opening their doors to let visitors find out all they need to know about Lexus Hybrid Drive, how it works and the benefits it provides with its lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to rival petrol-powered premium models."

Motorists can register in advance at www.experiencelexus.co.uk to qualify for entry in the draw to win a year with an RX 400h.
