Scotlay eggs are ‘Stoaters’

SCOTLAY don’t have extra large eggs – instead they have Stoaters.

Large eggs are Stunners, medium are Stormers, and small are Starlets.

Scotlay recently launched a new value range, Scotlay Saltire Savers, available in mixed-size packs of 15 eggs.

They have proved so popular at Sainsbury’s Scottish stores that Scotlay are now considering launching nine egg and four egg packs – all sold by minimum weight.

“Nora Finlay from Prestwick did the drawings for Scotlay hens and the ‘eggs with legs’ you see on our promotional material – including our recipe cards. Jim Paterson, of Paterson Print, Irvine, has helped with the design of labels for our new packs and also for our promotional posters,” added Quintin, whose input is also in the material.

“We’re very much an Ayrshire team.”

“Younger pullet’s eggs are best for taste while older hens lay the largest eggs,” said Quintin.

“Our flocks are constantly being renewed with stock.

“That’s because average lay time for any hen is 15 or 16 months before it goes to ‘the long white cloud’.

“Birds join the flock at 16 weeks and are up to full lay at 23 to 24 weeks.”
