Ayrshire Supermodel competition to run again next year

IT was the FIRST ever Ayrshire Supermodel contest.

And so successful was it that we’re doing it all over again next year.

Thanks to a whole host of sponsors, our 2008 winner Nicola Mitchell received a bumper collection of prizes.

Organiser Sheena Thomson, senior advertising manager at the Ayrshire Post, Kilmarnock Standard and Irvine Herald, said: “I was overwhelmed by the efforts our sponsors put in to make the big night a success. Without them we couldn’t have done it.”

A lot of work behind-the-scenes also went into the competition before the grand finale in Western House, Ayr.

Award-winning photographer Tom Gibson produced a stunning series of pictures of all the entrants for the qualifying rounds.

The guys and gals were interviewed before they went in front of the camera in Debenhams store, Ayr.

Twenty finalists were presented to a panel of judges on the big night.

The other sponsors who contributed to Ayrshire Supermodel were:

S&UN (trophy and £500 holiday voucher); Look Agency (modelling contract advice); Tom McNeil, Debenhams (goody bags to finalists); Western House Hotel (welcome glasses of wine and buffet); Charles Chester Jewellers (£1000 diamond pendant presented by Yvonne); Catkins Flowers (floral displays at hotel and bouquet for winner plus flowers for finalists); Catriona Burt, shop in Prestwick Road, Ayr; Glitz Kilmarnock (dress to the value of £300); Body Language, Kilmarnock, Senga Muirhead (bottle of champagne and a pamper day voucher for £200); Treehouse, Ayr, Martin Fraser (celebration meal for four); West Coast Limos, Andrew Wiseman and Ann Lithgow, (limo to and from meal at Treehouse); Ian McGrady, sales executive, Scotland and Northern Ireland, for Lotus and Pertu footwear group (shoes for winner).

Editor Alan Woodison said: “It’s refreshing to see good news and happy faces amidst the credit crunch headlines.”
