THE latest SOS campaign, supported by the Ayrshire Post, has resulted in more than 1200 parcels going out to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Companies large and small, community groups, South Ayrshire Council and the local media all played a part in the morale-boosting exercise.
The campaign, launched by the Klin Group of Kilmarnock, was directed at businesses around Ayrshire. Klin bosses Marie and Drew Macklin persuaded a number of firms to use their premises as drop-off points and locations for collection cans.
Organiser and SOS founder Agnes Hunter of Ayr said: “We’ve received many letters from troops expressing their gratitude for the contents of the parcels and the sentiments accompanying them.”
A welcome home dance for military personnel coming back from operations will be held in the RAFA Club, Prestwick, on Friday.
