THE power plate is one of the most exciting technological advances in the field of sports medicine, athletics and health and fitness.
It utilises whole body vibration to improve sports performance, enhance fitness and wellness and helps recovery from injury.
The principle has been established for more than 30 years and was used by cosmonauts on the Russian space programme.
Many of the former Soviet state’s top Olympic athletes also used it.
The Power Plate itself was invented in 1999 by Dutch Olympic trainer Guus Van Der Meer and has since been adopted by professional athletes and celebrities.
It utilises similar principals as conventional strength and power training by producing vibrations to stimulate muscles.
A 20 minute session can produce similar results to a longer stint in the gym.
Benefits include improvement of the neurological and nervous systems and more effective contraction of muscle; improved muscle growth, toning and strength.
It can also be used to reduce pain and help increase balance and co-ordination.
And it’s not just athletes or advanced trainers who can benefit from this. It can also promote strength and blood circulation in the elderly. Vibration training has also been shown to improve bone density and the production of growth hormones.
Power Plate should always be used under the guidance of a qualified professional.
