A GREAT-GRANNY is pledging to power walk her way through the biggest race of the summer.

Super-fit Anne Milne will line up with more than 2000 women at Ayr Racecourse for the Cancer Research Race for Life.

And shop worker, Anne, will lead the charge thanks to her daily training routine of gruelling walks.

The 65-year-old has been pounding the streets of Dalrymple in a bid to get in shape for the big day.

And she revealed: “The power walking is great. I’m going out every night to stay in shape so I’m ready for the race.”

Anne has worked at Tesco in Ayr for 19 years and was given a special award to recognise her fundraising efforts.

Angus Bell, Scottish Marketing manager, said: “Anne is the driving force for Race for Life in our Ayr store and has shown extraordinary spirit, going the extra mile to ensure vital funds are raised to help beat cancer faster by rousing support of staff and customers in her store.”

The 5k race takes place on Sunday, June 22 and only a few places are left with more than 2300 women already signed up to take part.

Race organiser Leigh Fergus revealed: “I’m confident that every one of the remaining places will be filled and urge any women who would still like to enter to visit www.raceforlife.org/scotland now to ensure they don’t miss out.”
