Still negotiating over shopmobility funds

I WOULD like to make it clear that the petition, to which you have given great publicity, does not have the backing or support of Ayr Shopmobility management committee and could well damage negotiations for future funding.

South Ayrshire Council, under the leadership of the late Provost Gibson MacDonald, originally set up Ayr Shopmobility and they have arranged funding ever since. Over the years the council have been extremely supportive.

With the pressure on budgets Shopmobility was told by South Ayrshire Council in February last year that funding would be reduced in phases and would cease in the current financial year, but they did, however, make sure there were sufficient monies to continue the service until replacement funding could be found.

Throughout the existence of Ayr Shopmobility, and especially since February last year the management committee has worked in close cooperation with the council. There have been many discussions regarding funding and premises and these meetings will continue until a satisfactory conclusion is reached.
