An accident waiting to happen

I WAS most upset to hear about the injury caused to the Australia visitor caused by the poor state of the footpath between the Burns Centre and Burns Cottage.

I live directly opposite the offending footpath and have witnessed numerous accidents to pedestrians, some in wheelchairs and children in pushchairs being injured over the years.

I have reported the incidents and the dangerous state of the footpaths to the council only to be informed that they have no money to repair the surface. This seems strange to me as I now see two openings in the wall to allow access to the offending footpath for more pedestrians. This will result in further injury and possibly serious injury to children in particular running on to the main road which has increased traffic volume since the Murdoch's Lone by-pass. The road between Murdoch's Lone and Greenfield Avenue has never been strengthened to accommodate the traffic increase and similarly the footpaths with the volume to the Cottage and Burns Centre have never been repaired after numerous excavations over several years.

A major accident is waiting to happen unless the road and footpaths are upgraded to the standard expected for the volume of visitors to this area require.
