Is there any council vision?

YOU would hope that the salaried councillors and leading officials of South Ayrshire Council might just be getting the message - if nothing else via the letters page of the Post - that there is an unprecedented feeling of anger, frustration, disgust and now complete and utter lack of confidence within the people of South Ayrshire in those within the walls of the County Buildings.

As SAC lurches from embarrassment to ridicule as the people see 'their elected members' make a complete and utter mess of what they are there to do - serve the people and make the council area a place where people should enjoy living and have the services to enable them to do just that.

You then turn your eyes and ears to North and East Ayrshire Council, where some vision, forward thinking and money has been identified to increase leisure and recreation within those council areas.

Can someone, anyone, tell me when the last time any vision, forward thinking and availability of funding has come from SAC in terms of leisure and recreation?

It is quite clear (politician speak) that over the past many years a succession of SAC councils have had no interest in promoting leisure and recreation and that in the town in Ayrshire that is supposed to be the number one holiday town.

As facility after facility is closed it gets worse - and yet we had on our doorstep a facility (Centrum) that was a facility that if in any other council area would have been utilised for exactly the purpose it should have been - a focal point for indoor sport, concerts, exhibitions and major conferences.

It did not even need built - it was there available for a council with any vision - but not SAC, no siree!

The sight of two community councillors standing smirking with their (Dawn supplied) hard hats outside a Centrum that is now being demolished and coming out with the unbelievable comment that: "The dismantling of this arena is a vital step forward in the regeneration of Prestwick Toll.", was one of the most nauseous sights I have ever seen in the Post.

"The regeneration of Prestwick Toll" - aka another supermarket!!

I think we can therefore add the community council heads to those of SAC as individuals that are well past their sell by date.

The quality of individuals within our council area in positions of responsibility would simply make you greet!
