IT IS devastatingly sad news to hear that South Ayrshire Council, without any consultation with the community, voted to close Dalmilling Golf Course from January 2010.
To date, the clubs have received no justification for this decision, although we understand the motivation for closure is being presented on financial grounds.
There are presently five golf clubs, with over 300 affiliated members between them, using Dalmilling Golf Course. In addition, it is well-used by the citizens of South Ayrshire, by tourists from home and abroad, by local business people, as a coaching centre for junior golf, by the county for ladies and junior competitions and is a popular venue for ladies and gents opens including Ayr Golf Week.
The Ayrshire Dalmilling Action Group (ADAG) has been established to contest the closure decision.
ADAG will be calling on the entire golfing community across the whole of South Ayrshire to rally in opposition to the closure decision, by joining them at the protest march on Saturday, February 28.
If you wish to vote with your feet against the closure of yet another well used leisure service, then please meet up at the Low Green (opposite the amusement arcade) at noon, dressed in your golf attire, to join in with the ADAG protestors.
