Council motto is to Cut and Shut

WE are not surprised at MSP Adam Ingram’s reaction to the Girvan Swimming Pool affair considering the shameful part his party (SNP) played in its closure. Not one of them voted to keep it open. It was predictable.

Mr Ingram is a professional politician and, like his fellow politicians, is highly skilled in people manipulation. In simple terms it means conning the people.

As my eldest daughter says, “You are being subjected to the oily rag treatment to calm you down.” She also calls the wielders of those rags ‘oily rags’ themselves!

In the present economic climate it is likely that his rosy picture of a leisure complex will suffer the same fate as the Maybole by-pass and be kicked into the long grass, to remain unfulfilled many years later.

In these hard-up times the emphasis should be on make-do and mend. A repair bill on these lines would have cost very little.

The minority Tory (12 votes) administration in Ayr, with the guaranteed support of the SNP (8 votes) is unstoppable. They can do anything they like in South Ayrshire and that is exactly what they are doing. The Gaiety Theatre, Care Homes, Girvan Swimming Pool. Their motto seems to be Cut and Shut.

If there is a grain of truth in Adam Ingram’s proposal then, until his grand leisure complex completed and ready, Girvan’s Swimming Pool must be re-opened now.
