SOCIAL Conservatism was an oxymoron created by David Cameron MP to symbolise a great change in the Conservative Party from right-wing capitalists who focused their attentions on society’s wealthiest and surrounded themselves with the right company and attended exclusive events – to the new party who care for each and every person in society equally.
So what better way to celebrate their leader’s prophecy than for a Conservative council group to spend £15,000 sending two head figures within the group on a lavish journey to Dubai – as told by this great newspaper.
Whilst our nation is facing an economic struggle, local services such as the Gaiety Theatre and Girvan Swimming Pool are being condemned to the abyss and our SNP government are strangling local councils of their funds – our Conservative administration, once again, have managed to claw out some civic pride/taxpayers’ money to spend, spend, spend on useless ventures – or as they allege, to promote South Ayrshire's tourist attractions. Our Conservative councillors should stop playing the people for fools and start to acknowledge the feelings for the people that they were elected to serve, instead of fulfilling their own needs for maximum vanity and pleasure.
Maybe David Cameron should create a more appropriate title for his party’s official ideology, from Social Conservatism to Normal Conservatism.
