The Place with no Loos

SOUTH Ayrshire Council have arranged a most peculiar welcome for the hundreds, nae thousands (if VisitScotland is to be believed) homecoming Scots to be expected in Alloway in 2009. These visitors will find that the only public convenience in Alloway, birthplace of Robert Burns, has been totally destroyed, presumably on orders of the local authority.

Are our welcome visitors supposed to suspend all bodily functions while they visit this most well known of all the Bard’s haunts?

By this act was the council trying to recreate the environment in which Burns himself lived?

What is certain is that as a result of this act of council vandalism, from 2009 onwards, Alloway will be known the world over as Place with no Loos. Is this really the image which South Ayrshire Council is trying to promote?
