ALL staff at Kyle Academy will be undergoing training in early February to introduce GLOW to the school. This is an internet based learning and teaching tool which is being rolled out over all South Ayrshire schools. GLOW is available to all schools in Scotland and will enable staff and pupils to communicate, collaborate, learn and teach within a technology enhanced environment. This is the first educational project of this scale in the world. The system, which can be accessed from home and school, is a completely safe and secure learning environment.
Parents and pupils will be kept informed of developments. A letter has gone home in the school bag to provide additional information.
A SPECIAL parents’ and pupils’ information evening will be held on Tuesday, February 3, at 7pm in the new hall to provide advice and support in making subject choices for fifth year. Arguably the decisions pupils make at this stage are among the most important and influential in their education and so it is important that they get it right.
However, the decision is a complex one. Not only do pupils have to decide which subjects they will take, but also which level of course they will take, and which combination of levels they will take. (There are four levels of courses in fifth year up to and including Higher). The best decisions are informed decisions. Please come along.
THE KYLE Parents’ Association Burns Supper will take place on Friday, February 6, at 7pm in the school dining hall.
This year’s celebrations are particularly special, as they mark the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth. As a result, Scots from across the world are being encouraged to return home to celebrate our national bard.
If you plan to bring any friends or relatives home to Ayrshire from other parts of the country, or from further afield, for the Burns Supper then please let the school know. They want to ensure that they receive an especially warm welcome.
The Toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns will be proposed by Ayrshire lass, Sheriff Morag Galbraith, who now lives in Glasgow.
Mr Bartholomew, depute head teacher, will be proposing the Toast to the Lassies. Sandra McCallum, previously Head of English at Kyle Academy, will provide the Reply.
This year the haggis will be toasted by Mr Paul, probationer teacher of geography. Reverend Crumlish of Castlehill Church will lead the staff and parents in the Selkirk Grace. Entertainment will be provided by the pupils and staff of the music department.
Tickets are now on sale from the school office or from members of the Kyle Parents Association Committee at the cost of £14. Please come along and support the Kyle Parents Association to raise funds for the school.
