THE CLOSURE of the Girvan Pool is deplorable and contrary to good practice in the education of children. Every child should be taught to swim, whether by parents, teachers or skilled staff.
As the child grows into the teenage years the attraction of sailing, kayaking, surfing and hill-walking may draw the pupil. The provision and practice of survival training is vital.
An indoor pool like Girvan’s provides a safe venue in a coast attractive but hazardous.
I write as a former secondary school teacher with experience of outdoor pursuits and appreciation of how important a facility like an indoor pool is in survival training.
Will South Ayrshire Council please re-consider their decision in the interests of public welfare and safety?
