Keep the Gaiety Theatre open

ON Saturday, January 3, my wife and I went to see the musical Joseph at the SECC Glasgow and were delighted to see printed on the back of the large glossy programme, an accolade to the Gaiety Theatre which is in the heart of Ayr.

These words will be seen by many.

Thousands of people appreciate good quality stage productions, so I find it extremely sad to think that our local council are even considering closing it, when it is loved by so many local people and visitors alike! (Especially in view of the fact that the gentleman who has successfully run the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow for the past 25 years, has offered to run the Gaiety at no cost to the council!)

Please, South Ayrshire Council, look at the bigger picture, and not just the short term apparent advantage, remember the Flower Show and the Burns Heritage Centre, (to name but two) major local features which were also under threat of closure, but which were subsequently rescued and very successfully so!
