ANOTHER year on and we are once again seeing the lights switched on in Ayr town centre.
Now we have a new chief executive, we would like him to ask this question to the finance department.
From the rates brought in from River, Street, Main Street and New Road, surely from this revenue we should be able to supply some Christmas lights to include this area. We only seem to get one Christmas tree at the roundabout at King Street.
What the powers that need to realise is the town does not stop at the town hall.
We are already losing trade in the Main Street with the closure of the post office and one of Ayr’s largest stores, MFI. So why does the council not give this part of the town some Christmas cheer, and put up some lights?
Or have the council review the rates in these areas, and give us a rebate and allow the shop owners to purchase their own festive lights.
