I HAVE never written to a newspaper before but this article on your front page made me very angry.
Why are the council taking funding from Shopmobility?
By doing so they will condemn a part of our society to become prisoners in their own homes. This is totally unacceptable as well as discriminating against people with a disability.
To the folk who use this service it is invaluable and would be a great loss. As the funding comes from the Common Good Fund I wonder if the council can do this, but I suppose the rules can be changed to suit!
We have enough flowers, seats and statues in our town centre, what we really need is service for people who have special requirements. Shopmobility users do spend money in Ayr town centre and in these hard times it does matter.
Please South Ayrshire councillors, visit Shopmobility and talk to the service users. Listen to what they have to say before you make what could be the worst decision of your term.
May I also point out that the disabled have a vote as well.
