Get behind the racecourse

I WRITE in connection with racing at Ayr.

My first experience of racing was the only time the St Ledger was ever run outside Doncaster, and I have been back to Ayr for most of the major races over the year.

It is with certain disappointment that Ayr Racecourse will be placed on the market for sale. The track and the facilities have been vastly improved for those who visit, and compete with events south of the border.

Mingling with crowds, it amazes me the distance people will travel to Ayr from the north of England and the Midlands. The spin-off for hotels, bars, employment and also local council tax must be consierable for the area.

I write to draw the attention of the elected councillors to do all in their power to help racing at Ayr.

Hopefully, I will be at the Scottish Grand National, and racing at Ayr will go from strength to strength, but only in my opinion with local owners who have Ayrshire’s best interest at heart.
