Brown bins still required

I HAVE considerable misgivings about winter suspension of brown bin collections in Troon area from October 31.

Whether it is due to global warming or not the fact is that we often now wait way into November before the bulk of leaf fall has happened, even after this weeks gales.

In addition late autumn is the normal time for trimming small branches from trees and bushes and pruning lots of shrubs.

Add to that clearing out beds and borders which even our council is still doing and there seems adequate reason for brown bin collections in November and even December although the first two or three months of the year probably provide sparse loads for collectors.

Chances are that this will lead to bigger loads in green bins and consequent burden on landfill disposals. There is also the possibility of some fly tippers.

As for more frequent blue bin collections their need is also suspect unless in credit crunch times the citizens of Troon and district are indulging in rampant consumerism?

I hope that there will be no chance of this pilot scheme spreading to the rest of South Ayrshire without more consideration.
