Smart move over condoms

GIVING free condoms to our schoolkids is a bold and risky move.

For one, it will surely lead to a rise in underage sex. At least in the short term.

Kids love to live dangerously and getting an invite to do so will be an opportunity too good to resist for some.

But here lies the key to the council’s plan – and we can only hope it pays off.

Children are desperate for what they can’t have and the taboo subjects carry a certain thrill element for them.

So instead of ignoring the inevitable and watching teen pregnancies rise, it seems like the smart move to tackle this problem head on.

It will shock and anger some parents I’m sure, but we’re living in a time when the subject of sex is all around us.

Would these parents rather their 14-year-old son or daughter came home to say there was a baby on the way – when it could have been prevented by some no-nosense education?

It’s a tough call, but surely it’s better to be safe than sorry.
