WHILST it is accepted that the older generation of Royal Air Force veterans require on going welfare assistance, the Royal Air Forces Association along with other service welfare agencies are increasingly dealing with a significant number of young veterans – many of whom have returned from active service in areas such as the Falklands, the Balkans and more recently Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Royal Air Forces Association provide welfare and care to all serving and former members of The Royal Air Force, their widows, widowers, spouses and their dependants.
Our network of honorary welfare officers, supported by area welfare officers and a welfare department at CHQ in Edinburgh provide welfare, support and friendship and, where appropriate, will also signpost those in need to other agencies for assistance.
Over recent weeks the national press has highlighted the problems suffered by, not only the returning troops, but also by their families.
September is traditionally Wings Appeal month and Ayr and Prestwick Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association with the assistance of local Air Training Corp Squadrons will be asking the people of Ayrshire and Arran to support our Wings Appeal collectors.
Alternatively, if there are no collectors in your area you can send a donation to Ayr and Prestwick Branch RAFA c/o Hon Secretary Bob Chandler, 8 Craigholm Road, Ayr KA7 3LJ.
R A Chandler
Honorary Secretary.
