THE article on the Centrum being bulldozed reminded me of a story I was told that this land was left to the residents of Prestwick many years ago
The ground that the Centrum is on, was I believe left to the people of Prestwick, and the council were to act as trustees of the land. It is also my understanding that the ground was never to be built on, but was to be used as recreational ground only
I was surprised when the Centrum was built on it but again I believe that this was justified by the council as being a recreational facility.
Instead of another supermarket, why is there not a cinema, bowling alley, or even another ice rink built there or perhaps a more useful thing in today's society would be a hospice/cancer care unit.
The last thing we need is another superstore and I don't know about you, but I don't class shopping as recreational.
