More action at roadworks

I AM here on holiday from Canada to visit some friends in Ayr and I am truly disgusted with South Ayrshire Council for the cavalier attitude they are displaying in allowing traffic congestion on a main arterial road.

I refer to the ‘work’ which has been ongoing at Tam’s Brig during the past three weeks. Each time we are travelling into town we are caught up in this massive traffic snarl-up. When we finally reach the bridge, we find there is a maximum workforce of three men; one leaning on a shovel, one looking into the hole in the ground, and the third sitting in his inactive digger, all of whom stop ‘ work’ at 4.30pm!

If this was back in my country, on such a major road, men and machines would be working flat out night and day to have the road repaired and re-opened in the shortest possible time.

It is obvious that South Ayrshire Council failed to have a penalty clause in the contact for this work, and have also equally failed to supervise the delay in having this work completed, thereby causing a substantial fuel wastage, and also causing unnecessary pollution.

If I was an Ayr resident, I would remember this fiasco whenever the local elections take place.
