RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick):Although not exactly ideal fishing conditions and the Fair holiday season, the water is producing results.Wily Onthank man Murray Spence took the Kilmarnock Fair and fished the Glasgow Fair eight rainbows but in his excitement he forgot method and weights, only surpassed by two for approximately 6lbs – forgot his name and method, W. Ure two rainbows one for 2lbs on yellow glitter power bait and one for 11/2lbs on a floating worm, G. Lewis one rainbow for 2lbs on power bait, John Balfour one rainbow for 2¼lbs on power bait, Davie Crone one rainbow for 2lbs on floating worm, and J. Worms, power bait doing well.COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): Work on the bait pond is now complete and it is now re- opened to the public. A couple of anglers tried it and both caught fish. There are hopes of a kiddies pond open mid week for juniors only, prices will be discounted.The ground maintenance is just about complete with bushes being removed to enhance the flyfishing and all the weed removed from both bait and fly ponds.Bait pond: Mr Milligan from Kilmarnock caught two fish weighing 4.8 lb using worms, Mr B. Allan from Belmont caught two weighing 4.3 lb using power bait.Fly loch: Gordon Lawrie from Coylton caught and released six fish using buzzers, Blair Mc from Coylton caught and released 14 fish using various flies over a three day period, W. Neville from Prestwick caught and released four using small wet flies, L. Hill from Girvan caught and released five fish using a sparkler lure.The McGregor family returned and enjoyed a good day’s fishing catching fish in both bait and fly ponds.SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): fly pond fishing well. Shorty released 10 on a size 16 black buzzer, the Cochrane family had five for 13lbs 9oz. Some great evening rises. Best fly yellow owl.Bait pond fished a bit better. Eight-year-old Cameron Lawrie had a nice rainbow of 3lbs 6oz. Best bait power bait.Coarse pond: still plenty of silver fish being caught. Murdo Gunn released lovely ghost carp of 18lbs 6oz.Although not exactly ideal fishing conditions and the Fair holiday season, the water is producing results.Read
