Angling reports: August 28

RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): the Canada goose native to arctic and temperate regions of North America is occasionally found in northern Europe. And eight have just arrived on the Raith water.

They are fitting in well with the host of resident wildfowl with the exception of Mr Swan. The weather this week has been far from perfect but the water is producing results.

Husband and wife team Davie and Linda Cronie had five on the floating worm, I am Legend Shalako with four for 9lbs and T. Wilson four on power bait.

In the amnesia department, three caught?, W. Gibbon three on power bait, Wullie Ure one rainbow for 2lbs and a blue 1¾lbs on power bait. A show stopping 6½lbs rainbow for Sean Harvey from Prestwick, father and son Eric and Stewart Greenwood one each at 2½lbs on power bat and silver toby, Allan Stewart one blue on floating power bait for 2¾lbs.

The overflow has been cleared of the overgrowth and a good flow is now in the water. The quality is crystal clear.

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): the fishing has been affected by the changeable weather with fewer fish succumbing to the flies.

Bait pond: nine-year-old Amy Miller from Troon caught five fish weighing 9.35 lb, J. Savage from Kilwinning four fish weighing 8.44 lb. Mr Taylor from Prestwick three fish weighing 5 lb, Greg from Ayr two fish weighing 3.5 lb, nine-year-old Lucy Spiers from Troon caught two nice rainbow trout weighing 3.6 lb, A. Compton from Prestwick two fish weighing 3.5 lb, Mr McKellar from Kilwinning caught two fish weighing 3.7 lb, K. Syme from Irvine caught a lovely rainbow trout weighing 3.7 lb.

Fly pond: F. Kerr from Ayr four fish using a bunny leach, Billy Boe from Kilwinning four fish using a red headed damsel, H. Potter from Glasgow three fish using various dry flies, A. McCann from Ayr three fish using a red fritz, B. Bell from Galston three fish using a yellow damsel, D. Strachan from Kilmarnock two fish using a yellow dancer, D. Morrison from Ayr two fish using buzzers, W.Welsh from Kilwinning two fish using an orange fritz.

BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): some of the catches: fly pond: B Stevenson four for 9lb, H Rooney four for 8lb 14oz, G Mitchell two for 5lb 5oz, Mrs Barr two for 4lb 12oz, Mr Miller four for 8lb 8oz, S Brennan one for 3lb 6oz, D Nelson three for 7lb 6oz, S Watters three for 7lb, C Jackson one for 2lb 10oz, D Rooney two for 4lb 6oz.

Bait pond: seven-year-old Grace Brown two for 5lb 6oz, T Thomson four for 9lb, Kim four for 10lb, D Hamilton four for 8lb 8oz A Russell one for 2lb 12oz, M Glover one for 2lb 6oz, Rab Purdie two for 4lb 6oz, T Dallas two for 5lb, S Elliot two for 5lb, S Campbell three for 7lb 6oz, R Cowan three for 7lb 3oz.

SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): fly fishing difficult due to the weather. Top catch was Robert Cowan with seven fish on a very small dry fly. John Allerdyce released six on small nymphs.

Bait was also tough. Top catch goes to George Allerdyce with four fish for 8lbs 10oz. Young Sam Smith from Bradford caught a nice 3lbs rainbow on his first ever fishing trip also young Kyle Halliday from Ayr had a nice 2lbs 2oz rainbow.

Coarse loch: Scouse again had a good net of skimmers and bream of nearly 40lbs on pellet on the pole. Plenty of roach and rudd were also caught.
