Ayr Lawn Tennis Club gents win Ayrshire League after five year wait

AYR Lawn Tennis Club’s men's first team battled to top the First Division.

They beat Prestwick 2 by 9-0. Ayr pairings were: D Lauder & J Woodall, A Paul & B Young, D Law & M Russell.

On Thursday, in the deciding crunch match, they beat Prestwick 1 by 6-3 to regain the title after a five year wait. Pairings were: D Lauder & R Taylor, A Paul & J Woodall, E McCorkindale & F Tait.

In the same division, the men's second team fell to Troon 1 by 9-0 while the third team lost 5-4 to Kilmaurs firsts in the Third Division. Pairings were: L Robertson & F Baird, D Law & A Gall, R Rogers & A Kirkwood.

Ayr ladies first team were handed a walkover in their final match of the season to see them take the Division Two title after winning all 10 of their matches.

However, in the same division, Ayr 2 ladies lost to Carrick 2 by 7-2. Pairings were: H Wolstenholme & Sadie Gow, K Dauthieu & S Moore, I Watson & C Baillie.

Ayr Carrick LTC teams enjoyed a winning end to the league season with all four teams on top.

In the ladies First Division, Carrick 1 beat Prestwick 1 away by 5-4. Pairings: A Golightly and M Sinclair lost 3-0, K Hunter and A Knox won2-1, M McNish and M Stark won3-0.

In the ladies Second Division, Carrick 2 beat Ayr 2 at home by 8-1. Pairings: E Kerr and A Macfarlane won 3-0, Bulloch and W Bulloch won 3-0, McNeill and J Parker lost 2-1.

In the ladies Fourth Division, Carrick 3 beat Kilmarnock 2 at home by 6-3. Pairings: Fairlie and R Pirie won 3-0, M Delaulle and L Yair won 3-0, Carrick conceded third couple 3-0.

In the gents Second Division, Carrick 1 beat Troon 2 at home by 8-1. Pairings: G Cunningham and G Leitch won 3-0, D Balmer and C Delaulle won 2-1, Troon conceded third couple 3-0.
