RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): a total of 79 fish were caught in the club’s annual open day on Saturday.
Big prize money, tagged fish, raffle, free barbeque, coffee and tea etc enticed a good attendance and nobody went home disappointed.
The day started with a flat calm but still fish were being taken, initially on the fly but as a ripple came on it was Kevin Hiddleston who was first finished. Included in his bag were the first tagged fish all taken on a silver mepp for 10lbs 10oz, closely followed by Bob Younger with four for 10lbs 9oz on a 5cm rapala.
Tom Collins clinched first prize with four fish for 12lbs 4oz on a yellow dancer. Runner-up was 12-year-old Liam Ross with four for 10lbs 13oz on power bait, just shading brother Joseph by 1oz. Dad Stevie would rather not talk about his performance!
Heaviest fish was secured by Ian Falkner with his 4lbs 7oz rainbow taken on a toby.
Some other bags were Jim Tomlinson’s four for 10lbs 12oz on a black and green fritz, William Hiddleston four for 10lbs 8oz on power bait, David Crichton four for 9lbs 3oz on power bait, David Miller three for 8lbs 3oz on an ace of spades, Pinky four for 8lbs 2oz on power bait.
Bitter rival ‘I am legend’ Shalako sportingly declined to weigh in his specimens (cannot tell you his secret) to give others a chance.
David Andrew, and juniors Luke Carruthers and Andrew Anderson accounted for another three tagged fish.
All in all it was a memorable day and the club extend a big thanks to Shalako, all who donated to the marvellous raffle and to Grace who steadfastly stood by the barbeque all day, feeding the masses.
