Troon Volleyball Club suffer mixed fortunes at Belmont Academy

TROON Volleyball Club suffered mixed fortunes in matches at Belmont Academy on Saturday.

The women's seconds were first up against Su Ragazzi in the Scottish Women's Division One. The whole squad performed well but didn't carry enough serving or hitting power to prevent Ragazzi scoring a 3-0 win.

The women's first team comfortably beat Scotland's third force Edinburgh Jets also by 3-0 with a brand of fast tough hitting volleyball to retain their position at the top of Division One.

Troon men lost their unbeaten record in the Scottish First Division at the start of the 2011/12 season. The first set was bitterly contested before Troon succumbed 27-25 following a series of serving errors.

Jets took command to win the second set but in the third Troon fought back to win by a clear margin to take the match to a fourth set which, despite their best efforts, they lost.

The final game saw Troon seconds against South Ayrshire seconds. Troon, with an average age of under 16, took their older rivals all the way before going down 3-2 in a five set thriller.

This Saturday sees Troon's top women's side take on main title rivals City of Edinburgh in a top of the table league clash at Belmont Academy.

At the same venue, Troon men take on Scottish Division One leaders City of Edinburgh which will be another big test.
