Angling reports: September 9

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): another great week’s fishing with most anglers catching their bags. The fish have been taking most flies especially small dries.

Fly pond: A.Montgomery from Kilmarnock caught and released eight fish, A.Easton from Ayr caught and released eight, I. Muncie from Dreghorn caught and released 14 during two visits, Olaf from Dreghorn caught and released nine, Ross from Coylton caught and released seven, G. Dunlop from Ayr caught two weighing 5.2 lb and released five, G. Dunlop from Ayr caught two fish weighing 4.6 lb and released one other, Mr.Clark from Irvine caught two weighing 4.3 lb and released four others, E. Dawson from Drongan caught and released three fish.

Bait pond: Olivia Roseburgh from Ayr caught two fish weighing 3½lbs, Mr Graham from Bolton caught five fish weighing 9¾lbs, R. Monaghan from Kirkconnel caught two fish weighing 4½lbs, C. Smith from Ayr caught a 2 lb rainbow trout, Mr McConnchie from Catrine caught two fish weighing 6lbs.

BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): the fishery is holding an open pairs competition (fly or bait) on Sunday, September 11 from 8am until 4pm, four fish limit each angler. Cost is £15 per angler (£30/pair), heaviest team bag wins, trophies for first three. Bookings to 07527 405715 to book your place.

The PGLA visited and held a pairs competition with a total of 96 fish caught.

Results: 1. D Strachan (505) and B Bell (505) with nine fish for 20lb 14oz; 2. J Hodge (11) and D Murray (22) with 10 fish for 20lb 11oz; 3. T Gorman (149) and S Lynch (149) with 10 fish for 19lb 12oz. Heaviest fish went to D Strachan with 4lb 7oz.

RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): the week leading up to the second leg of the open competition saw Murray Spence four fish, Shalako four rainbows for 11lbs 15oz on his favourite lure, T. Wilson four fish on power bait, J. Currie three rainbows on the floating worm, John Gibson two rainbow for 4lbs 14oz, G. Lewis one brown and one rainbow on the floating worm, John Lothian one rainbow, Andy McKissock one blue on power bait, C. Baillie one fish. Obviously in their excitement most forgot species, weight or methods.

The second leg open competition held on Sunday, despite the nice weather, was to prove a slow day. David Miller’s two rainbow taken on a Green Viva for 5lbs 2oz gave him a combined weight of 15lbs 14oz and secured him first place.

John Balfour’s three on the floating worm for 7lbs 2oz made him runner-up with a combined weight of 14lbs 10oz.

Andy McKissock had two for 4lbs 12oz on a black gold head, Kevin Hiddleston two on power bait weighed in at 4lbs 6oz, William Ure one brown and one rainbow for 2lbs 15oz on power bait, junior member Rory Scott one on power bait for 2lbs 9oz and Davie Boyd one for 1lbs 8oz on a red and gold mepp.

A work party has been arranged for Sunday, September 11 from 9am until midday with a good turnout appreciated, especially by the over 60s and juniors whose competition is the following Sunday.
