RAIN was again the winner as Ayr’s Scottish National League match away to Heriot’s was lost to the weekend showers on Saturday without a ball being bowled.
But there was action last Thursday when Ayr beat Greenock in the West League Cup at Cambusdoon.
Ayr batted first and scored 142-2 with skipper Mark Renny top scoring with 54, well supported by Andi McElnea (27) and Neil Smith (43 not out).
Some tight bowling by Ayr kept Greenock well behind the required run rate and the visitors finished 31 runs short on 111-6. Callum Leck was top bowler with 3-28.
The Cambusdoon XI lost away to Whitehaugh on Saturday. The home team were bowled out for 102 which was then rounded up to 117 under the Duckworth Lewis system after the loss of 20 overs due to rain. Ashwin Nair was top bowler with 3-12.
In reply, Cambusdoon were bowled out for 62 after some very tight bowling, Alan McCrossin top scoring with 27.
There were victories for the under 11s who won away at East Kilbride by 91 runs.
The under 15s beat West of Scotland by 84 runs. Batting first, they scored 148-5 with Mohammed Azeem unbeaten on 60 and Sean McCrone 30 the top scorers. They then restricted the visitors to 64-6 to record a comfortable victory.
Sunday saw Cambusdoon host a Kwik Cricket festival sponsored by Asda with teams from Ayr, East Kilbride and Clydesdale taking part.
This week sees Local Life Ayr face Clydesdale in the Rowan Cup on Thursday and Stoneywood Dyce in the SNCL on Saturday, both at Cambusdoon.
The Cambusdoon XI are also on league and cup duty as the meet Poloc in the Rowan Cup on Tuesday at Cambusdoon and on Saturday are away to Nunholm in the SNCL Reserve League.
MGM Prestwick are only five games away from clinching promotion after another rain affected weekend.
And with three of their final fixtures at home, the Henry Thow Oval men, who have a 100 per cent record, are well placed.
On Saturday, Prestwick host Hillhead before closing against Irvine (away), Glasgow Uni staff (away), Kilmarnock (home) and St Michaels (home).
It’s been a rain affected season with seven games so far washed out, meaning Prestwick have played only six league matches.
The Oval lads will head to Dumfries in the semi-final of the SCU Trophy on Sunday, July 31.
The under 18s lost at home to Clydesdale in the Scottish Cup last Thursday.
The visitors racked up 183-4 and then held Prestwick to 145-7 with Fraser Rodger hitting 50.
On Monday, the under 18s lost at home to Ferguslie by 113 runs. The visitors ran up 143-5 (Robert McDowall 4-13) and then skittled Prestwick for 30.
