AYR celebrated their first league win of the season with a narrow victory away to Uddingston on Saturday.
In a match reduced to 43 overs due to rain, Ayr batted first and made 178-8 with Michael Papps top scoring with 77. He was well supported by Neil Smith (29) and Dougie Johnstone (28).
Due to the stoppages for rain, Uddingston were set a revised total of 185 to win and were looking dangerous until Elliot Speirs ran out the home team’s overseas amateur Alex Day (59) with a direct throw from the boundary.
They were eventually bowled out for 178 with two balls remaining. Scott McElnea was top bowler with 4-34.
The only other match to survive the week’s rain was the under 13 ‘B’ match against Prestwick on Friday night which saw Ayr win by 78 runs.
This weekend sees Local Life Ayr at home to Clydesdale on Saturday in the SNCL and on Sunday they host West Lothian in the Scottish Cup. The Cambusdoon XI are away to Meikleriggs on Saturday.
PRESTWICK crashed from the Scottish Cup when they lost to Poloc at the Henry Thow Oval on Sunday.
A delayed start saw the match reduced to 20 over-a-side from 4pm. Prestwick made a decent start through Fraser Macdonald and Derek Pettigrew but collapsed to 94 all out after poor shot selection.
In reply, Poloc breezed home at 95-4 with eight overs to spare.
On Monday, Prestwick paid for poor bowling as they lost to Clydesdale at Titwood.
Fraser Rodger’s 60 helped Prestwick to 118-4 but Clydesdale clinched it at 119-4.
