Cricket is a washout and leaves Ayr and Prestwick idle

MGM PRESTWICK have a home double header – against Irvine on Saturday and Poloc on Sunday.

The Scottish Cup tie at Shawholm last weekend was washed out and under cup rules now moves to the Henry Thow Oval.

The only weekend action to beat the weather saw the 3rd X1 lose at home to new team Hamilton.

Richard Scott took three wickets as Hamilton racked up 271. Kevin Lawler top scored with 34 in Prestwick’s reply of 131.

The under 15s beat Hillhead last Friday with James Pettigrew taking four wickets as they bowled out the visitors for 42. Prestwick got the runs with only one wicket down.

Fixtures: Thursday: 1st X1 v Greenock (a), sponsored by Frankie & Benny’s (a), West League Cup; Saturday: 1st X1 v Irvine (h), sponsored by Malcolm McGregor; St Ninians X1 v Bute County (away), sponsored by Frankie & Benny’s; Sunday: 1st X1 v Poloc (home), Scottish Cup; Monday: U18s v Clydesdale (a), sponsored by Reid Quantum; Tuesday: St Ninians X1 v Ayr (a), sponsored by Frankie & Benny’s; Wednesday: U18s v East Kilbride (away), Frank Smith Trophy.

Wet weather left Ayr kicking their heels in an idle weekend.

The only senior match to survive was the Cambusdoon XI match last Tuesday night in the Western Cup against Shawholm.

A good all round bowling display restricted the visitors to 71-6 in their 20 overs. Pick of the bowlers was young Elliot Speirs who had remarkable figures of 4-4-0-1. In reply, Ayr cruised to victory for the loss of only one wicket.

The under 13s lost by three runs against Ferguslie. Chasing 88, they got off to a good start with a fine opening stand between the in-form Ivan Craig and Lloyd Jefferson.

However, after they departed, a regular fall of wickets left them needing nine off the last over, but sadly they fell short.

On Friday night, the under 11s won the local derby away at Kilmarnock.

This week, Local Life Ayr were due to travel to Renfrew in the West league Cup on Tuesday evening and head to Uddingston in the SNCL on Saturday. The Cambusdoon XI look to continue their impressive start at home to Bothwell.
