RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): an interesting week which started slowly with T. Wilson four fish on power bait, M. Spence two and Curdy Hay one on the floating worm.

Despite torrential rain, the two man open competition in midweek was well attended. Most competitors for some reason expected a repeat performance of the previous week’s fly competition and flocked to the far bank.

But it was all to happen in Boathouse Bay and along that direction with a total of 26 fish caught. It was a night to remember for some of the big guns including former world champions as new members Jim Phillips, with three fish for 7lbs on a silver mepp and partner Ross Sargent, two on power bait for 4lbs 5oz, were first with a total of 11lbs 5oz and their first silverware.

Second were Henry McConnell with three on a cat’s whisker for 7lbs 8oz and Neil McGinn with one for 3lbs 6oz, for a total of 10lbs 14oz.

Joint third were Charlie Waite with two on a rapala for 5lbs 4oz and Jim Gillespie with one on power bait for 2lbs 6oz for a total of 7lbs 10oz and Pinky, two for 5lbs 8oz on power bait, and partner Lorraine one for 2lbs 2oz for a total of 7lbs 10oz.

The week carried on steadily on various methods as some random return show.

T. Wilson four on power bait, Curdy Hay three on the floating worm, W. McIntosh three as well as Jimmy Currie who both forgot just what they caught them on?

Jim Newall, three rainbows for 8lbs 8oz on a Tasmanian Devil, Tony Armstrong, two on a combination Orange Gold head and Viva Gold head, Robert Scott two on sunken power bait, ‘J’ two on power bait. Some who were happy with just one were Davie Boyd on a silver mepp, Any McKissock power bait, and not so happy M. Spence.

On Saturday, May 21, the club are hosting Tarbolton Field Sports Association’s annual fishing outing. Members’ help would be appreciated
