THE Ayrshire Angling Association holds its 87th Ayrshire Championship at Loch Doon on Saturday, May 14. Competitors should be registered before 8am at the dam.
Registration costs £8 for affiliated club members and £10 for non-affiliated club members. There are prizes for open, fly fishing only and junior sections. Details from Craig Osborne (tel: 07766 657291).
SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): On the fly pond, Stevie Pringle from Paisley and Ian Crossan from Ayr released nine, Colin Campbell released seven, J. Nisbet from Irvine got his limit four fish for 8lbs 10oz. Best flies were black buzzer, yellow dancer and shipman’s buzzers.
Bait pond: best catch goes to John Allardyce from Airdrie with five fish for 11lbs 3oz. Young Ian Jones, on holiday at Craig Tara, was fishing for the first time and had three fish for 6lbs 6oz. Best bait was power bait.
Coarse pond: The D&T Security grab a grand qualifier was won by Davie McCauley from Motherwell with 15lbs 7oz. Second was Ewan Weed from Ayr with 13lbs 2oz while third was Gordy Taylor from Ayr with 12lbs 10oz.
BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): the fishery is holding a junior bait competition on Sunday, May 15 from 9am until 4pm with a four fish limit, and heaviest bag wins. Cost is £15, bookings to 07527 405715.
Winner of the open fly was I Gray with four fish for 9lb 5oz, second was J Graham with four for 9lb 1oz, third was S Hamilton with four for 9lb.
The fishery was visited by Good Year AC who caught 22 fish between them.

RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): the week following the open day provided some nice returns among them M. Spence eight fish on power bait, J. Lothian eight on power bait, T. Wilson eight on power bait, Joe Smalcic six on power bait before rod and reel were pulled off the rod rest into Davy Jones’s locker by Mr Big, Robert Baillie four on power bait, Alex McNeil four on power bait, Tom Drummond four on power bait, J. Currie four on power bait, W. Douglas four on power bait, John Anderson three on power bait, J. McKean three fish, Tom Patterson three on the floating worm and D. Cronie three on the floating worm.
The star was G. Lewis with three rainbow on power bait for 6lbs, ‘J’ three fish worm? Last, but not least, Tony Armstrong in the fly department, one on a green gold head.
