Troon volleyball women pipped by City of Edinburgh for Scottish title

TROON women failed at the final hurdle to win the Scottish league when they lost 3-1 to City of Edinburgh in the capital.

With the match tied at 1-1 going into the best of three title decider, Troon took the first set 25-21 after being boosted by the introduction of the experienced Jenny Ellis.

But despite stalwart defence from the likes of Ellis, Elaine Krawczyk and particularly Gillian Lyall, they lost the second 25-21.

Poor starts in the next two sets took their toll and Troon lost 25-22, 25-16 and with it the title. There is still much to play for as Troon look to win the Scottish Cup for the fourth year in a row when they meet City of Edinburgh yet again in the final at Wishaw on May 15.

Also at finals weekend, the men play Scottish champions Glasgow Mets in the Thistle Bowl final and the women's second team play Orkney in the plate final.
