Angling reports: April 22

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): fly pond catch and release tickets, now the fishery is weed free, four hours c&r still £6 and eight hours £10.

Adam Easton released one, Andy Bennett released three, Nathan Love nine, J Edwards and G Weir lost count of what they caught and complimented on the quality of the fish, Kevin Smith of Irvine had 20+, John Murray of Troon released four of which two he estimated to be over 5lb.

Jason Whiteford, also from Troon, released three, A Burns from Stevenson chapped three for 6lb on damsels, Hugh Munroe released seven on various drys, Billy McGarland released five also on various drys, with Harry Barclay beating Billy for a change as he released seven on diawl-bach.

Seven holiday makers from between Livingston to Campbletown had a great day and released 21 quality fish with the winner of their own competition being K McKinstry who released six on bunny leaches. They also enjoyed lunch at the waterfront over looking the fishery.

Ian Muncie is part of the force supporting Willie Neville who is now back on a Friday and Sunday. Ian released five on nymph damsels.

Bait pond: W Doak of Glasgow chapped three for 7½lb. Tam Jarvie, who was bait fishing with his son Cotey, got four from his five fish ticket totalling 7.3 lb.

John Sibild and son from Irvine, neither of whom had fished before, enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. They caught only one but are now hooked on fishing and will return on Saturday.

BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): on Saturday the fishery held the junior and senior troutmaster fish-offs. Bill Dykes won the senior prize with four fish for 9lb 10oz while Rhys Cooper, with two fish for 4lb 2oz, took the junior.

The fishery is holding an open fly competition on Sunday, May 1 from 8am to 4pm with a four fish limit, heaviest bag wins. Cost is £15. Bookings to 07527 405715.

Stewarton Angling Club from Wishaw caught 22 fish between them.

RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): nice weather is seeing the water fish exceptionally well on all methods, although it is mostly the pensioners taking advantage as the returns show.

Jock Patterson with four on the running worm, G. Lewis from Pollokshaws, four on power bait for 8½lbs, M. Spence two, one for each rod, Brian Goudie two on a Toby, Jimmy Currie two rainbow, John Carter from Glasgow one rainbow on a Toby, Tony Armstrong one rainbow on the floating worm, Alex McNeil one 2lbs rainbow on power bait, J. Lothian one rainbow on power bait.

The club’s annual open day is on Sunday, April 24 from 9am until 4pm with big prize money, tagged fish, raffle, free barbeque, coffee and tea etc. It’s a family affair with non members, adults and children all welcome. For the members, a little help or donation to the raffle would be appreciated.

SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): fly pond continues to fish well. Ian Crossan released 14 and young John Reid from Maybole released 12, biggest estimated at 4 or 5lbs. Colin Campbell released nine, best flys buzzers, black and red fritz, Maybole mauler.

Bait pond fishing well. Tam Kirk from Dalrymple had to have two tickets and caught six fish for 14lbs 8oz. Cameron Gill, age 13 and Brady, age 11, had four for 9lbs 11oz, best bait power bait and worm.

Coarse pond fishing well. The last leg of the D & T Security winter league was won by Mike Weed with 20lbs 8oz. The overall winner was Ewan Weed who also had the heaviest fish and heaviest one day catch. Dez and Billy had a good evening fishing for carp. They had nine between them and a nice tench.

DALVENNAN FISHERY: evening sessions doing well with the change in weather. Well done to John Hall for catching a 9lbs 2oz rainbow and putting it back.

Catches: Martin Coulter kept one for 2¾lbs, Stuart Ventura kept one for 2¾lbs, six c/r, Jock Hardy one c/r, Stevie Grace three c/r, Don Wallace six c/r, Colin Graham one c/r, David Morrison one c/r, Steven Muir two c/r, Chris Clark four c/r, Iain Reid one c/r, Nick Park three c/r, Allan McLeod two c/r, John Kerr seven c/r, Bob Mitchell two c/r.

Best flies cormorant, hot head damsels and diawls bachs.
