Angling reports: April 8

SPRINGWATER FISHERY (Dalrymple): fly pond continues to fish well. The Castle Angling Club had a great day. Winner was Douglas with three fish for 9lbs 9oz. Most members got their three fish limit. Best fly was black buzzers.

Bait pond also fishing well. Gordon Fleming from Mauchline had four for 9lbs 14oz, Miller Waugh three for 7lb 14oz, Shane Wilson from East Kilbride three for 8lbs 5oz. Best bait power bait on the bottom.

Coarse pond picking up. Dave Paxton got a good ghost carp of nearly 10lbs. Still catching plenty of roach. Craig Cameron got a good 2lb roach, skimmers still showing. Back to summer opening times, 8am to dusk.

RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): a quiet week despite mild weather but not an unproductive one.

Jock Patterson six rainbows on the running worm, G. Lewis five fish, Jimmy Currie four, Robert Scott two, John Lothian two, M. Spence two.

These guys forgot what species, weight and what they actually caught them on and one even forgot his name.

Andy Faichney two rainbows for 4lbs 7oz on the running worm, Alex McNeil and John Anderson two 2lbs rainbows each on the floating worm.

Saturday morning’s torrential rain would have put most people off but the die hards gave it a go. It was to be a slow day with Robert Simpson starting with a 2lbs 5oz rainbow taken on sunken power bait, closely followed by pal Davy Boyd with its twin on the same method. Jim McHattie from Glasgow one.

Across Boat House Bay, Neil McGinn caught a blue and a rainbow on a Green Fritz but wasn’t quite sure what weight they were. The spinners were just not connecting and, as the weather brightened up, Bob Younger changed tactics and had three rainbows for 7lbs 6oz on sunken power bait.

Jim Gillespie and 11-year-old grandson Adam also had three rainbows for 7lbs 8oz on sunken power bait. Jim McGuffie, opting for the floating worm, had two nice rainbows for 5lbs 2oz. Alex McNeil, just along the same banking, also had two rainbows on the floating worm, as eventually did son Richard much to dad’s annoyance as it made him miss the first race.

DALVENNAN FISHERY: still bags of fish being caught with weather being cold. Two hour c/r permits available.

Martin Coulter kept one at 2½lbs, John McMillan kept two at 5½lbs, Davie kept two at 5¼lbs, George Hendry kept one at 2½lbs, Gary Gibson kept one at 2lbs, Billy Dykes kept one at 2¾lbs, Stuart Hamilton kept one at 3lbs, one returned, John Scobie kept two at 5¼lbs, one returned, David Morrison four c/r, Christ Mattison two c/r, Jamie Graham two c/r, Olaf two c/r, Sandie three c/r, Chris Clark four c/r, John Kerr five c/r and Iain Brown seven c/r.

Best flies are mixed buzzers, mini cats and diawl bach.

BURNS TROUT FISHERY (Tarbolton): the evening session has now started with the clocks going forward. It runs from 5pm to dusk and costs (adult), £10 two fish then c/r on fly pond, £10 two fish bait pond (concs/child) £8 two fish then c/r on fly pond, £8 two fish bait pond. The evening catch and release session on the fly pond is £6.

BROOMHILL FISHERY (Patna/Rankinston B730): weather getting colder as the week progresses.

Turning Points fishing party had a good day on Monday with some 30 fish caught. On Saturday, James McArtney had a great day releasing 23. Sydney Carson two kept 3lb 13oz, Ryan McGinlay one kept 2lb 1oz, Kenny Wilson two kept 4lb 2oz, Kirsty Sizer one kept 2lbs, Lee Hill one kept 1lb 13oz, Andrew Jess two kept 3lb 11oz, Robert Caughie four kept 7lb 12oz, Hendry Murray three kept 6lb 1oz, Robert Richmond three kept 5lb 10oz, Colin Desykes two kept 4lb 2oz, Scott McAllister two kept 3lb 9oz, Robert Brown three kept 6lb 13oz, Craig Bletsoe one kept 2lb and seven c/r, Darren Russell two kept 4lb 7oz and five c/r, John Smillie five c/r, Hugh Dempster four c/r, Adam Easton one c/r, Jamie Chapman nine c/r, Danny Sculz 8c/r, Cisco three c/r, Robbie Kerr four c/r.

Best flies were Green/Black Montana, Daiwal backs, orange Fritz, Cats whiskers.

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): fly pond: the Quinn brothers from Motherwell released a total of 11 on nymphs. Mr McGee and Simpson from Dalbeattie released seven on dry flies, Ross McLean from Ochiltree released five on a black/green fritz, D.Connelly and D. Caven from Irvine released four on yellow dancers, Mark, the waiter from the restaurant at Coyle, caught and released three on a blue dancer, Adam and friend from Annbank released a total of seven on an evening session, Gerard Flynn released two, Ross McLean, on another visit, killed two for 4.9 lb and released four on a orange blob, Ian Brown from Dunoon killed one for 2.8lb and released four on a sedge, Greg Dunlop released five on a grey goose, W. McGarrie and M. Archibald from Ayr killed three for 6.4lb on blob and yellow dancer, Adam and Gerard from Annbank released seven and two, Olive and Sandra from Dreghorn released seven and one on buzzers.

The fly pond was closed on Wednesday (April 6) for a weed cutting boat imported from Holland that cuts and lift all weed from the loch.

Bait pond: Sandy from Ayr, three fish for 6lb, P. Fucchini from Ayr, two for 4.2lb and Ryan from Maybole two for 4.1lb.

ANNBANK FISHERY: fully stocked with rainbows and blues from 2lbs upwards. All who attend are catching their bag limits and more on catch and release.

Best flies: yellow dancer, black buzzer, orange fritz and black nymphs. Old new faces face, ticket prices as last year.
