Ayrshire pupils star at Scottish Schools Swimming Championships

AYRSHIRE swimmers fared well at the Scottish Schools Championships at Tollcross, Glasgow.

There were 42 swimmers from east, north and south Ayrshire who qualified. They won 13 medals - six gold, three silver and four bronze.

Rosie Wynne (Auchinleck Ac) and Jordan Hughes (Ardrossan AC) both became double champions.

Rosie took gold in both the 100m breast (1.18.84) and 200m breast (2.41.61) for the 13/14 age group. Jordan won gold for the 100m free (54.81) and 200m free (2.01.39) in the 15/16 age group.

Other golds: Liam Cairns (St. Bridgets PS) in the 12/u age group for the 50m fly (32.51). Cameron Muir (Gargieston PS) in the 12/u age group for the 50m breast (38.76).

Silver medals were won by: Jennifer King (Largs Ac) 13/14 for 100m back (1.09.80), Nicole Duffy (Belmont Ac) 17/19 100m back (1.09.24) and Julie McClymont (Ardrossan Ac) 13/14 100m fly (1.09.49).

Bronze medals went to: Cameron Reece (Wellington) 12/u 50m back (37.03), Julie McClymont (Ardrossan Ac) 13/14 200m fly (2.33.97), Ross Hughes (Ardrossan Ac) 13/14 200m fly (2.36.10) and Anastasia Khymnuk (Wellington) 12/u 50m fly, 35.85.

Other placings: 12/u age group: Catriona Fowlie (St Andrew's PS) 50m back, Marshall Illingworth (Wellington) 50m breast, Euan Leslie (Annanhill PS) 11th 50m free and Georgia Brawley (Kingcase PS) 15th 50m back.

12/u 4x50m freestyle relay: Wellington 5th place.
