RAITH RESERVOIR (Prestwick): a magnificent week’s weather saw only the retirees able to take the advantage.

T. Wilson six fish on power bait, Andy McKissock five on power bait, Murray Spence four, John Lothian oneon power bait along with Curdy Hay, G. Lewis, and W. McIntosh.

This sportingly left some for the workers and juniors who made their appearance on Saturday morning to find the water a flat calm and a bright sun with no cloud cover.

There was no shortage of fish showing themselves in the shallows. This display went all day as if they were playing. Although the conditions were difficult and the fish were not taking, Derrick Caldwell jnr took one on an Orange Mepp and three on power bait, dad Derrick snr managed only one on power bait. Alex McNeil had four on power bait for 8lbs 4oz, while Neil McGinn one on power bait for 2lbs.

Sunday was better attended with better conditions which saw John Anderson take three rainbows with three casts on a Fire Tiger Rapala.

Fearing his day would be over too quickly, he changed tactics to the floating worm and never had another offer unlike brother-in-law Andy Wilson who had two on the floating worm.

Nephew Andrew Anderson also had one on power bait. Alex McNeil had four rainbows on power bait, as did John Balfour for 8lbs, Jock Patterson took four on the Running Worm, Neil McGinn had two nice Blues on power bait. Another two fish were taken by D. Kelly while Davie Boyd was happy with his one on power bait.

Ticket outlets: Gamesport of Ayr, Newalls newsagents of Monkton, Pets Aquarium of Prestwick, Torbets of Kilmarnock and Wee Jimmy’s of Bank Street, Irvine.

COYLE WATER FISHERY (Coylton): a steady week at Coyle Water. With the bait pond re-opened and a hefty stocking, most bags are filled fairly quickly. The fly pond is producing good results for most anglers.

Catches: I. Robertson one for 1.15lb, J. McDonald two for 3.4lb, J. Mowat two for 3.8lb, G. McClure two for 4lb, M. McClure two for 4lb, K. Roberts (age five) five for 11.4lb, J. Lumsden two for 4.10lb, M. Wallace three for 7.2lb, S. McNab two for 4.3lb, J. Marshall four for 8.7lb, R. McIlwraith one for 2.5lb.

Catch and release: R. McIlwraith released five, J. Lumsden one, B. McIntyre four, P. Hilton three, B. Stewart two, B. Oliver three, C. Wilson one, D. Wilson three, S. Marshall one.

Powerbait one to two feet down from the float is still the most effective method but now that bait has been moved back to the original bait pond, various depths and baits will work just as well.

On the fly, lures are still proving the most effective. Fish are still rising quite often and Buzzers seem to be what they are going for.

The old bait pond is now open making it bait only again and the fly pond is now back to fly only.

BROOMHILL FISHERY (Rankinston/Patna B730): condolences to the family of Dick Campbell who passed away at the week-end.
