Prestwick Cricket Club clinch Strathclyde League

PRESTWICK Cricket Club’s Sunday X1 have been crowned Strathclyde League Division Three champions.

They beat Kilmarnock to overtake Ayr and pip them for the title.

Batting first, Prestwick set a competitive 196 with Derek Pettigrew top scoring with 60.

In reply, Killie could muster only 113 all out with Mark Openshaw taking 3-15.

Jubilant skipper Iain McGregor said: “The boys have been superb all season and it’s great to get rewards for their efforts. Beating Ayr to the title makes it even sweeter.”

lOn Sunday, Prestwick hosts its annual Super Eights from noon.

Holders Glenburn Miners Welfare FC are joined by tournament sponsors Sharp Building Supplies of Auchincruive, Prestwick Cricket Club golf section, becogent and Ayrshire Supplies.

Each team will play four five overs-a-side games with the top two meeting in the final.

A barbecue will be supplied by Laurence Hood butcher, there will be music by the Mad DJ while there will be a bar.

lPrestwick’s Samantha Haggo helped Scottish ladies beat Hampshire away in two matches.

The 17-year-old hit an unbeaten 27 in a 50 partnership over four and a half overs. She also took a wicket and a catch in both games.
