AYR men's first team had a disastrous start to the new season when they crashed 6-1 away to league newcomers, Stirling Wanderers.
Ayr, featuring several new faces, dominated the game for the first quarter and took an early lead. Stirling equalised with a breakaway goal and went ahead shortly before half time.
The home side took control in the second half and scored their third 10 minutes after the re-start. The game was settled as a contest when Ayr's midfield playmaker, Gordon Cuthbert, fell heavily in the Stirling circle and broke his collar bone.
Ayr re-organised but were unable to prevent Stirling scoring a further three goals.
On Sunday, Ayr are away to Perthshire.
