AYR Cricket Club’s Development X1 are relying on results elsewhere to see if they have won the Strathclyde League.
They went into their final game against Kilmarnock at Cambusdoon knowing victory would ensure the title...but it wasn’t to be.
Kilmarnock scored 223 in their 40 overs with Andrew Baird taking 4-17. Ayr were reduced to 47-4 before a century stand between Neil Smith and Calum McLaughlin.
But once Smith departed for 83, the game hung in the balance and 10 were required from the last over and four from the last ball.
McLaughlin was caught on the long on boundary for 83 as he tried to win it.
The under 18s completed their season with a victory away to West of Scotland with a 50 and three wickets for Scott McElnea.
Prestwick under 18s ended their season with a win at Kelburne on Monday. Prestwick made 159-5 (Fraser Rodger 52). The hosts replied at 68-7.
Rodger was unbeaten on 33 as they reached 97-4 away to West last Wednesday. But West clinched it at 110-4.
