LOCAL LIFE AYR, who fielded an under-strength side, fell to a disappointing defeat at Poloc on Saturday.
The home team batted first and posted 254-5 with Andi McElnea taking 4-76.
In reply, Ayr were always behind the required run rate and ended up 24 runs short on 230-9 with fine contributions from Michael Papps (42), Douglas Johnstone (32), Mark Renny (41) and an impressive 28 not out from Matt McClymont.
The Cambusdoon XI had a good victory against Glasgow University Staff as they battled to fight off relegation.
The University men batted first and made 181–6 with Luke Speirs pick of the bowlers with 3-36.
The Cambusdoon men’s reply was stuttering at 53-4 until a century partnership between Ross Mitchell (64 not out) and David Simpson (59) got them back on track as they ran out winners by four wickets.
In the juniors, the under 11s suffered a narrow defeat away to Ferguslie, while the under 15B team won away at Irvine while the under 15s beat Drumpellier by 47 runs on Friday night.
This weekend sees Local Life Ayr complete their league programme at home to Stirling. The match is sponsored by Dorothy and Leo Coia.
MGM Prestwicksuffered a hefty defeat as their season slides to a miserable conclusion.
Following last week’s loss at Hillhead, which ended the Oval men’s chances of the Western Union title, Prestwick were put to the sword at Irvine.
Gavin Pitt’s side were skittled for just 108 in less than 20 overs when batting first.
And Irvine were able to rattle off the runs quick style, for the loss of six wickets.
The second XI restored some pride with a victory over Kilmarnock on home soil.
Batting first, Prestwick posted 232-2 with a century for Mark Openshaw (107). Kev Lawler (75 not out) and Chris Scott (40 not out) helped the innings tick along.
In reply, Killie could manage only 182-6, with Fraser Macdonald claiming a hat-trick.
The first team were in 20/20 action against an Afghanistan touring team at the Oval and a great occasion was enjoyed by all.
Prestwick made 132-5 with Shazad Rafiq top scoring on 29. The tourists replied with 119-8, with Jake Stafford among the wickets.
The under 15s beat Hillhead last Friday by 139 runs after reaching 169-1 with the bat.
Chris Scott notched his maiden century to reach 103 not out before Hillhead crumbled to 30 all out, with Jon Rogers taking four wickets.
The under 11s lost by 27 runs in their away match at Hillhead.
Meanwhile, the club is preparing for its annual end-of-season spectacular on Sunday, September 19.
The Super 8s is a competition for teams of non-players who will do battle at the Oval in a day of cricket, music and good food.
Prestwick spokesman Allan Haggo said: “It promises to be quite a day.”
